The Lucy Peres Award was established in 2015 to honor the legacy of Lucy Peres, a long respected leader who devoted her career to serving Nevada’s aging community. Even after retiring from the State of Nevada, Peres remained a tireless advocate—continuing her work through the State Commission on Aging and public policy efforts until the end of her life. She served as past president of the National Silver Haired Congress and was chair of the Nevada Aging Services Directors Organization (ASDO) at the time of her death. Engaging with Aging is the successor to the ASDO annual conference, carrying forward Peres’ legacy of service and leadership.
Just like Lucy, Amy has dedicated her work to advocating for policies that create communities where we all can age in place and thrive.
“For us at West Health, our mission is successful aging,” said Jon Zifferblatt, MD, Chief Strategy Officer at West Health during the awards ceremony. “And Amy is our GPS. Her destination is always set to what’s right for older adults. And in not just thinking about it, but in doing it, in pushing us, in inspiring us to do that, she is resolute. She’s steadfast and patient.”
Presenting the award, Jeffrey Klein, FACHE, President and CEO of Nevada Senior Services, highlighted Herr’s leadership and national impact, noting that her work has helped shape multi-sector plans for aging now adopted—or under development—in more than 30 states, as well as expanded access to care models such as PACE.
“Amy does the work because the work is there to be done,” said Jeffrey Klein. “Amy Herr is kind, passionate, and genuine. The way she cares for and about people is so deep that it is profound.”
Leanne Clark-Shirley, PhD, FGSA, President and CEO of the American Society on Aging, also recognized Herr during the ceremony, thanking her for her unwavering leadership and service to ASA and to the broader aging field.
West Health is proud to celebrate Amy’s leadership and her continued contributions to advancing healthier aging through policy, partnership, and purpose.
As Jon Zifferblatt noted, we eloquently agree, “Amy, this award is indeed a feather in your cap. And for us at West Health, you and your work, you are a feather in our cap.”
