West Health Institute and CEO Shelley Lyford have been recognized by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) for their leadership and sustained partnership in advancing geriatric emergency care nationwide. An effort that has helped transform how more than 600 emergency departments across the country care for older adults when it matters most.
For more than six years, West Health Institute has worked alongside ACEP to support the expansion of geriatric emergency department accreditation across the country, helping emergency departments better meet the needs of older adults and strengthen care quality, dignity, and outcomes when it matters most. This collaboration reflects West Health’s broader commitment to improving healthcare delivery by advancing models of care that enhance quality, access, and affordability across the system.
The award was presented by the ACEP leadership team during a visit to West Health’s La Jolla headquarters. This recognition also reflects the dedication and efforts of the West Health team members who have worked behind the scenes to make the Geriatric Emergency Department initiative a national success. Through deep collaboration, operational expertise, and an unwavering commitment to improving care for older adults, the West Health team has helped translate vision into real-world impact. Together with ACEP and clinical partners across the country, West Health remains committed to advancing high-quality emergency care that delivers better outcomes for older adults today and into the future.
