UC San Diego Health has opened a state-of-the-art unit specialized in treating seniors requiring emergency healthcare. The Gary and Mary West Emergency Department at UC San Diego Health in La Jolla is the first in California to treat qualifying patients over the age of 65 in a dedicated space customized for geriatric emergency care.

On Feb. 19, Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla joined philanthropists Mary and Gary West, as well as campus and community leadership, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new facility. “Mary and Gary West, I cannot thank you enough for your partnership and support,” said Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “We are pioneering a course that is uncharted in terms of geriatric care. This is the first accredited facility west of the Mississippi and the first such facility in the UC system.”
