Black Lives Matter.
We are grieved and outraged by the brutal deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and others who have been hurt or killed by racist violence. The peaceful protests we are witnessing around the nation and in our own communities are righteous and needed to help bring about an end to systemic racism in this country. We as an organization stand in solidarity.
We also stand with our Black and Brown colleagues, collaborators, grantees, and older adults as we all continue to confront the issues of racism and social injustice that are tragically so prevalent in our country. We believe in equality, fairness, diversity and social justice — values and principles that have powered our mission and guided our grantmaking, medical research and policy efforts on behalf of vulnerable seniors.
While we don’t have all the answers, we are committed to being a part of the solution in both voice and action in the work that we do. We must continue to act to break down the barriers that divide us and build the bridges that unite us.
In solidarity and with deep respect,
Shelley Lyford
